Associate – Investment Team

Turning Rock Partners is a principal investment firm focused on alternative investments. The firm specializes in value-oriented, opportunistic investments with a measure of downside protection. Underlying investments can include corporate debt, corporate equity and other special situations or privately negotiated financings or asset purchases involving cash flowing North American lower and mid-market companies. 

Turning Rock is looking for an Associate to work on our Investment Team, focusing on our SBIC Fund, in our Washington D.C. Office. This individual will have the opportunity to work from the ground up as we build the strategy into the future.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Conducting research on companies within multiple industry sectors focusing on financial metrics, debt structure, covenants, and overall creditworthiness.
  • Developing complex presentations and financial models using Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Actively make investment recommendations.
  • Managing live deal execution, including running due diligence processes, negotiating nondisclosure agreements and other legal documents with lawyers and potential buyers, organizing co-investment processes where necessary.
  • Presenting to senior executives (CEO, COO, Partners, etc.) and investors on corporate strategy, financing alternatives and corporate governance issues.
  • Reviewing and commenting on complex legal documents, including offering documents and purchase agreements.
  • Contributing to the team’s deal pipeline efforts including participating in calls, documenting interactions in the firm’s CRM system, and managing follow up.
  • Supporting with and creating new and strengthening existing client or investor relationships.
  • Participating in marketing efforts for the SBIC fund including PowerPoints, presentation of deal case studies, tracking investors in the firm’s CRM system and investor relationship management.

  • Contributing on an ad-hoc basis where needed with respect to investment, operational or marketing related projects.
  • Contributing to the greater company vision, aiding in the success of multiple deals.

Knowledge, Skills, And/Or Abilities

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant investment experience with preference to significant experience in the capital markets.
  • Ability to timely and independently identify and develop investment opportunities.
  • Superior investment performance and strong decision-making skills.
  • Experience and ability to navigate complex debt and equity investment situations.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team, which includes the ability to be flexible and adaptable.

Education And/Or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant investment experience with preference to significant experience in underwriting and financial modeling.  
  • Experience working in or with an SBIC fund preferred but not required.

Turning Rock Partners values it’s employee base and strives to pay at or above market rate, with excellent benefits options.
